    - The game would be individual, not in teams. Jobiwan would write a problem in his little whiteboard, and you need to answer it as fast as you can. This game would be played in the covered court. Only one basketball will be but in the middle of the court. The first person to finish the problem will try to get the ball and score. If more people start getting it correct, they all need to try to score and take the ball away from other people, until someone scores once (two points because it is basketball). This will be played for five rounds. At the end the person with more points win. If there is a tie……………..I have to say it……………………NO!!!!……………………………………………………………….YEAH!!!……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….FREEEEE THROOOWWWSS!!!!!!!!!!

    FFFRRRREEEEEEEEEEE TTTTTHHHHROWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3    Sam M // Oct 26, 2008 at 4:04 pm

I think Toby’s idea is good, but some people are terrible at basketball and others are better so we should do something like running a certain distnace, so the chances of winning could be closer and more equal.

  • 4    Mr. J. // Oct 27, 2008 at 5:50 pm

This is a good point, Sam, but in most cases, those who start running first will usually always win. It would be fun to mix it up with an activity that could benefit the students who solve the problem later, giving them a chance to succeed along with the first finishers. Maybe an obstacle course? Something that could slow down some of the early finishers?

  • 5    To-b L // Oct 27, 2008 at 6:31 pm

mabe the girls ( who are usually not so good at basketball ), can do another problem while the boys try to score, or vice versa. Or, people can choose waht they want to do: basketball or another problem

  • 6    Mr. J. // Oct 28, 2008 at 9:48 am

Oooooohhhhh, I don’t think the girls will take that so kindly, To-b L. Plus, I know for a fact there are some great shooters amongst our female classmates.

  • 7    To-b L // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:13 pm

What i mean is that the person can choose what to do……the girl thing was just an example

  • 8    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:14 pm

Maybe we could do something in the field after the rainy season. We could do the running later, ad not when you finish the problem. But, it would be better to find a sport that most people in the class are good or close to good at.

  • 9    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:16 pm

I think Toby is right, we could choose different sports, though not many differet ones because it would be very time consuming.

  • 10    Mau O. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:16 pm

I beleive Tobie’s idea is great, but some times we try it with basketball or soccer!!!!!!!!!!Good Job To-B

  • 11    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:17 pm

    Correction:
We could give students the choice to either do another problem or shoot a basket, which would both have the same value in extra points.

  • 12    Sthefano A. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:18 pm

I think that we should make an obstacle course with toby’s idea and after you. For example you finish the problem run to a ball take it to a spot, run again to a jump rope, jump 10 times and then go to a basketball and shoot or shoot to a soccer field.

  • 13    David Montealegre // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:18 pm

maybe we could do the obstacle course in the gym, so that we don’t have to wait for the rainy season to finish.

  • 14    Gerardo M. (aka Gerson) // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:19 pm

Well, Sam, the thing is, almost everyone is good in one or many sports, but it would be very unusual that we find a single sport that everyone is good at. It would be simpler to do something like “Around The World”, where the winner advances and the loser later gets a chance to overtake the winner.

  • 15    Mau O. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:20 pm

I also like the point Sam made!!!!!!I beleive too many sports is confusing. Also how about you can do this in teams???

  • 16    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:20 pm

I don’t think the class would ever agree on a sport in common… It would take such a long time to agree on a sport…

  • 17    Andres S. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:20 pm

I like Toby’s idea but I am really bad at basketball and dribble really slowly so I would probably lose pretty badly at the game

  • 18    Giancarlo B. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:21 pm

I think Sam’s idea is very good, but what would we do if we did something on the soccer field?

  • 19    Roxanne M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:21 pm

I agree with Mr. J because its not all of the girls that are bad at basketball or other sports. The girls or guys could get good by practicing and learning how basketball is played and then they could try to shoot and play your game Toby L.

  • 20    Gerardo M. (aka Gerson) // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:21 pm

Giancarlo, the field is muddy! We would be pigs covered in mud -.-

  • 21    Abbey N & Tina Ln // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:22 pm

We think that this will be a good activity because you can practice math while doing something fun and active!!!!!!!! We think that this will be fun because we can have fun competitions in math class.
( And girls can be good at b-ball too!!!!!!!!!!!)

  • 22    Mariana S // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:22 pm

I agree with Mr. J., some girls are good at basketball and other sports. I think it is a good game, they can learn and at the same time enjoy. Maybe they should practice shoots before playing, then play the review game To-b L.

  • 23    Ariel B. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:23 pm

I think Toby’s idea is good. I also think we should do the activity in the gym.

  • 24    David M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:23 pm

Gerardo’s idea is very good. something like around the world would be good.

  • 25    Brian S. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:23 pm

I think that you should make the game that you race to the board. The original one is that you have to race to the board and then the one that looses, had to go and sit down, but the one that i am thinking about is one that is the same, but some things are different. The main thing that is different is that you split the class into 2 teams. One person of each team has to go and race to the board, and the looser doesn’t sit down, but the winner gets a point to their team. So it is the same but everyone os include, and everyone is learning things because you don’t go and sit down. That would be the game that I suggest.

  • 26    Adrian. S // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:24 pm

Another game I have in mind is a game where 4 groups have to answer jeopardy questions about what we reviewed or to do problems master jobe tells us. There would be 5 value options that each team could choose. The teams who lose have to run for ten minutes while the winners get to watch them and feel better.

  • 27    David Z. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:24 pm

I think you all have good ideas but the game could be better if you add more complex rules like lets say if the math problem is really easy the person should have to throw the ball from an exact location or distance. The easier the problem the longer the distance, and the more complex the problem the shorter the distance. I think this would make it much more fun!

  • 28    Sthefano A. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:24 pm

Another idea is to make a game involving tag. 2 people solve a problem the winner gets to be the hunter. 5 people of a team get inside a human circle(big enough) and when the “hunter” touches someone the round is over and that person has to solve a problem. If the person gets it wrong they lose a round. Then another team goes in and the team with more won rounds wins.

  • 29    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:24 pm

If we do team sports, some people won’t even play the sports (no names) and people wouldn’t like the sports and it would be hard to make even teams… I also like Sthefano’s idea of a obstacle course.

  • 30    To-b L // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:25 pm

FORGET THE GIRL THING!!!!!!!!! I WAAS JUST GIVING AN EXAMPLE

  • 31    Flor M. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:25 pm

I think a good review game would be something like Tobys idea, but in my review game you are in groups of 4. Mr Jobe would tell us some problems, and in order to play you have to get the problem right. You do 10 rounds or more like these, and then you add the points that you have. then we all go to the field and get in our groups. after that depends on how many points you got you play relay races all the groups against each other. The group who wins is the one that won most points.

  • 32    Mau O. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:25 pm

Gerardo who cares if it is muddy?!?!?!Its no like mud is going to kill us!!I agree with Gian carlo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 33    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:25 pm

I like Sthefano’s idea of a obstacle course. It should be hard and long, so we can do sports too…

  • 34    Ariel B. and Wendy L. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:26 pm

We think Toby’s idea is good because we can practice math and basketball at the same time!!! nice….

  • 35    Roxanne M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:26 pm

I agree with Giancarlo B but i wouldnt want to play soccer I would rather do like relay races.

  • 36    Andres S. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:27 pm

I don’t agree with Gerardo’s idea because around the world is really boring because we’re a really big class and the only one having real fun and actually learning is the one that wins.

  • 37    To-b L // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:27 pm

….And we couldnt do it at the gym because we cant go every class to the gym…….lets do it at the covered court

  • 38    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:27 pm

I don’t really care if the field is muddy, but if we do it on a muddy field, we might need a change of clothes maybe, and this class isn’t on any day during the last period…

  • 39    Kartik C. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:28 pm

I think To-bs idea idea is great, about the basket ball, But we should try something which every one likes. I don’t know what every one likes. We can make two teams and we are going to do 15 sums, then how many ever we get right we take basket ball free throws. It’s going to fun. It’s not about being good it’s about having FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 40    Gerardo M. (aka Gerson) // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:28 pm

aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh too many comments at once!!!!

  • 41    Ariel B. and Wendy L. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:28 pm

    We agree with Rox!!!

  • 42    Brian S. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:29 pm

Gerardo, your idea is good because you don’t get out and also you can keep going. The only problem with that idea is that our class is MASSIVE, so it’ll take nearly 15-20 minutes for the same person that lose to go again. =]

  • 43    Arianna C. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:29 pm

I think we should something like Toby’s game, but in groups so the people who are terrible in basketball have a chance to win. The group does the problem together and the people in the group take turns throwing. That way everybody has to do the math, but the people who are bad at basketball have a chance to win also…

  • 44    Flor M. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:30 pm

I also liked Sthefanos ideas, because it includes different sports, so nobody can disagree and it is fun!!

  • 45    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:30 pm

Many people in the class would sit out during the sport (you know who) and wouldn’t get extra points and complain about they don’t get points.

  • 46    Rosa M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:31 pm

IDEA-We could do a game in the field. Five people go up and Mr. Jobe will give us a different problem each to solve. The answers will be on a plastic cup( cup is on a desk). And once you’ve solved it you have to try to hit your cup with your answer you got. Mr. Jobe will tell you if you got it, and once you did you try to knock down all the other cups so they can’t get any points. We can hit the cups with a tennis ball or frisbee.

  • 47    Giancarlo B. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:31 pm

I think sthefano’s idea of an obstacle course is a great idea, but how would we review for math?

  • 48    Gerardo M. (aka Gerson) // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:31 pm

Brian……this is honors math (-.-) unless Mr. Jobe gives a problem like 23497832984239479 x 234234234234 its not going to take 20 minutes for 15 people to answer problem =/

  • 49    Mau O. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:32 pm

I hope once we can play for soccer tournament or something but I dont like Gersons idea either it is kind of weird!!!!!!!!!!Around the world would be very boring!!!!!!!!

  • 50    To-b L // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:32 pm

    Actualy I dont know who

  • 51    Flor M. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:32 pm

I also dont care about the mud, it is fun!! And I also liked Roxannes idea of the relay races instead of basketball!!

  • 52    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:32 pm

I think Brian is right: the size of the class would affect which sport we play, because some sports require little people, or we don’t have enough space for many people to play… Let’s try something football related…

  • 53    Gerardo M. (aka Gerson) // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:33 pm

Mauricio…if you are winning you’ll see its not boring =)

  • 54    Ariel B. and Wendy L. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:33 pm

Maybe we can do like 2 teams and each team needs to do math then the team who wins can get 1 minute of free throws. And each team can have the same amount of girls and boys.

  • 55    Sthefano A. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:33 pm

I like Rosa M. idea because it includes Math and Accuracy. And I think it would be fun to hit things with balls.

  • 56    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:34 pm

… There are simply too many sports to play and no agreement about which one to play.. Lets leave that choice to Jobe

  • 57    Abbey N // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:34 pm

I agree with Mariana S. and i think that we should practice shooting before we play !!!!!!!!!!

  • 58    Kartik C. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:34 pm

I agree with Mau and Giancarlo the mud doesn’t kill us, but I also agree with Sam, we have to change again.

  • 59    Mau O. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:34 pm

I beleive an obstacle cousrse is very good but i dont like the idea that Roxanne said that soccer no because she is bad im also very bad in basketball and would still play

  • 60    Roxanne M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:35 pm

I agree with Gerardo M but i dont think Mr. J would do that kind of problem.

  • 61    Mari S // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:35 pm

I agree with Rosa M. game. It would be fun playing to hit cups with a tennis ball!!!

  • 62    Abbey N // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:36 pm

maybe we can do this with another sport like soccer!!!!!!!!!

  • 63    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:36 pm

One minute of free throws with 10+ people on each time?!?!?! Not everybody would get a chance to free throw…

Let’s just play some sport, I don’t care which.

  • 64    To-b L // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:36 pm

Yes, like Arianna said it would be betters in groups. People good at basketball in the group would try to score, and people who are not so good can try to do another problem, or mabe try to score in soccer in a little goal .

  • 65    David Z. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:36 pm

Another game I had in mind was one based on the players algebraic skills. In my game I would divide it into 6 teams, each solving algebraic expressions as a team to get the longest distance. Each team must wager distances and if they get the expression wrong they go back the distance they wagered. The team with the longest distance will win!

  • 66    David M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:37 pm

maybe we could do something like flor’s idea but a little different. we would make 4 teams (in the field). mr.jobe would give us all note cards. he would say a mathproblem and then you have to solve it. when you solve it you give it to mr.jobe. if it’s correct you get to run around the field once. if you are the first to run the firld you win 4 points. if you are the 2 to run around the field you get 3 points ect. at the end the loosing team has to do as many push-ups as the difference of points that they have from the winning team. for example if the winning team has 10 points and the loosng team has 2 points the loosing team would have to do 8 pushups. only the winning team won’t have to do pushups. they will see the other teams while they do their pushups

  • 67    Sam M // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:37 pm

We have to wait for January and February to use the field and play soccer… And not many people are optimistic about playing soccer

  • 68    Brian S. // Oct 28, 2008 at 12:37 pm

Yea Gerardo, but after a couple of rounds you are going to get bored of just waiting, because the fastest and best of the class is going to be the one winning, he might win everytime, and if that happens, you wait until your turn, and then you lose right away. -.-
So then what would be the point if only the winner is learning!?!? No one else is going to pay attencion to what the winner or to what he is saying. -.- -.- =/

  • 69    Mau O. // Oct 28, 2008 at 11:53 pm

AS many people are against soccer may are against basketball!!!!!!!!!!!I love the idea David Z. (aka Tito) gave!!!!!!!and sam mud is not going to kill us!!!!
